She lets her hand glide smoothly down the curving wooden banister. At the bottom, she pauses and slowly looks around.
Except for the distant chirping of a few scattered birds, the house is silent. Overhead, a large skylight spills gleaming sunlight across the black and white marble floor. On the far wall, a vibrant painting contributes brilliant blues and oranges of its own.
How could a place where she has only spent one afternoon already feel so familiar?
The front door suddenly swings open. She turns and smiles.
